About Focused Shockwave

What is Focused Extracorporeal Shockwave?

Focused extracorporeal shockwave therapy is an advanced, Regenerative, evidence-based, non-invasive technology that applies high-energy sound waves, called True Shockwaves, to joints and tissues in the body, to promote powerful relief and healing.

At first, these waves are able to substantially reduce pain and inflammation, disrupt scar tissue, and kick start the healing process.

How Does Shockwave Therapy work?

Focused Shockwave therapy works in multiple different ways, including:

  • Reducing Pain and Inflammation - Initially, the shockwaves help to reduce pain and inflammation by effecting specific pain pathways and cellular receptors. Reducing pain and inflammation helps the patient feel better faster as the healing process takes hold.

  • Breaking Down Scar Tissue - The sound waves can help break down scar tissue and calcifications, improving mobility and range of motion. This can be especially helpful with surgeries and traumas/injuries.

  • Recruiting Stem Cells - Focused Shockwave therapy recruits Stem Cells and other cells responsible for tissue repair and rebuilding. As inflammation and damaged tissue is broken down and cleared, new healthy tissue can be formed.

  • Promotes Circulation and New Blood Vessel Formation - Shockwave therapy stimulates the body to increase new blood vessels and circulation to nourish and heal the areas being treated.

What Issues Do We Treat?

Some of the common issues we help are:

Is Focused Shockwave Therapy right for me, and what Should I Expect With Treatment?

As with all of our patients, your initial visit will include a consultation, which is an in depth conversation with Dr. Blatt to thoroughly understand your health history and concern(s), to explain in detail how we may be able to help, and what that would look like for you.

If after the consultation we believe Focused Shockwave Therapy is not a good fit for you, we will tell you that, and we will make the best recommendation we can for you.

If we believe Focused Shockwave Therapy can help you, the next step would be an initial exam/assessment of your areas of concern, and a Shockwave Mapping session.

The exam allows us to understand the nature of your health issue(s), and the Mapping session determines if and how Focused Shockwave Therapy is able to help you achieve your desired outcome.

Additionally, the history, exam, and mapping will also help determine what supportive care may be needed. As a Chiropractor and an Applied Kinesiologist, Dr. Blatt provides comprehensive care, personalized to each individual's needs and goals.

Each Focused Shockwave visit averages around 10-15 minutes. At the time of the treatment, a gel is applied to the surface of the treatment area. The applicator is then applied to the treatment area delivering focused waves to the areas in need.

These treatments are interactive. While Dr. Blatt will be able to treat you effectively, realtime feedback can help us get as precise as possible.

Care plans commonly range between 6-12 sessions to achieve the maximum relief AND regenerative effects, depending on the issue, location, severity, and desired results.

However, meaningful relief and improvement often occurs after 3-4 treatments, if not sooner.

Subsequent treatments offer continual, cumulative improvement and sustained results, which is why consistency is very valuable.

What makes our practice unique is that unlike other other providers who offer shockwave, Dr. Blatt is not just skilled at diagnosis, he goes above and beyond just applying the Focused Shockwave Therapy:

Each individual may receive manual care where appropriate to improve the structure, biomechanics, muscle function, and neurological function of the treatment area.

Additionally, rehab/strengthening/physiotherapy movements and exercises, are among the other options provided to improve your issue(s) as much as possible.

While it is not required, and there will never be any pressure to do so, many of our patients combine Chiropractic care with Focused Shockwave Therapy. The two work synergistically to speed up healing time,  and get the best results by addressing the underlying causes of their issues.
